Labarge Electro Therapist

Labarge Electrotherapist is a fun instrument to work with. It functions as an instrument to develop skills that enable training for eye-hand coordination.

What is eye-hand coordination?

Eye-hand coordination is the ability of the vision system to coordinate the information received through the eyes to control, guide, and direct the hands to achieve a certain task. Eye-hand coordination is an essential component of performing everyday tasks; without it, most people would be unable to pick up a book from the table or play video games.

Who is a good candidate for Labarge Electrotherapist?

Helping kids tell left and right or up and down (directionality)

An electro therapist is used for children who are having trouble with their directionality (the ability to tell left from right, top from bottom, upwards from backwards), and they don't know how to navigate space very well. It is natural for younger children to struggle with directionality, but by a certain age, usually around 7 years old, if a child has problems with directionality it is a developmental skill that should be worked on. For fluent reading, a child needs to know how to hold a book properly, identify the top and bottom, follow the text from left to right, identify the first and last words, and track from word to word and from line to line. All of which becomes difficult if your child has a problem with their directionality. So this device is kind of a way of introducing that to them.

Helping stroke and concussion patients who struggle with left and right or up and down (directionality)

It is also beneficial for those who have suffered traumatic brain injuries. When you suffer a traumatic brain injury, you lose some of the abilities you had before. Through the use of this device, we can rebuild nerve pathways in the brain so that information can be processed more efficiently. A traumatic brain injury can cause the following vision problems:

How does a Labarge Electrotherapist work?

There are many cognitive inputs on this device. It has, for instance, different arrows, so it is a kind of matrix. Vision therapists need to observe whether the patient can follow the arrows in the directions they are pointing, and how accurate they are at finding the path. This causes a lot of confusion among patients. After a while, they become better at it. They can easily navigate the matrix or the maze. There is a lot of versatility to this device, sound can be added to it, like a metronome, and the patient tries to keep up with the beat.

Schedule a Functional Eye Exam

You may be a good candidate for vision therapy and eye-hand coordination training using the Labarge electrotherapist if you or your child struggle with directionality. If you have sustained a traumatic brain injury or your child is over the age of 7 and struggles with directionality, then we recommend an evaluation to see if eye-hand coordination can help improve you or your childs visual function.
